FIFA corruption scandal includes South Africa World Cup, clothing deal with Brazilian FA and Sepp Blatter election

Written by admin on  Categories: pnoftmgs Tags: , ,

A sportswear company's sponsorship deal with the Brazilian FA, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the election of Sepp Blatter as FIFA president in 2011 are all part of the FBI's corruption investigation. US prosecutors allege a wide range of football matches and tournaments have been tainted by bribery and kickbacks including World Cup qualifiers and South America's international tournament, the Copa America. The bombshell announcements came on a dramatic day for football's world governing body in Zurich. Seven senior officials – including vice-president Jeffrey Webb – were arrested as FIFA gathered for its annual congress. Swiss authorities detained the men on behalf US authorities who have charged them with being part of a £65million fraud campaign dating back three decades. In a separate investigation, the Swiss prosecutor is investigating allegations of "criminal mismanagement and of money laundering in connection with the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 football World Cups". Documents and electronic data were seized from FIFA's headquarters in Zurich today. It also emerged a Brazilian marketing boss has already admitted fraud charges as part of the FIFA corruption scandal and will pay back almost £100million. The US justice department revealed that José Hawilla, the owner and founder of the Traffic Group, pleaded guilty to racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice in December last year. Hawilla agreed to forfeit over $151 million (£98million) of which $25 million (£16million) was paid at the time. His case is one of a number of guilty pleas kept "under seal" until today. Prosecutors also revealed that Daryll and Daryan Warner – both sons of former FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner – have admitted offences including fraud, money laundering and structuring financial transactions. Daryan has handed over $1.1million (£700,000) and will agree to pay back more on sentence. Charles Blazer, the former CONCACAF general secretary and a former FIFA executive committee member, admitted 10 charges including racketeering, fraud, money laundering and income tax evasion. Blazer – regarded as the supergrass behind the FBI's FIFA case – forfeited over $1.9 million (£1.2million). In an astonishing day of events, seven senior FIFA officials were arrested in Zurich as the organisation gathered for its annual congress. A total of nine are facing charges – they include: Current FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, Caribbean Football Union (CFU) executive committee member and Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) president. Current FIFA executive committee member-elect, CONCACAF executive committee member and Costa Rican soccer federation (FEDEFUT) president. Current FIFA development officer. Former Central American Football Union (UNCAF) president and Nicaraguan soccer federation (FENIFUT) president. Costas Takkas: Current attaché to the CONCACAF president. Former CIFA general secretary. Former FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, CFU president and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser. Current FIFA vice president and executive committee member. Former CONMEBOL president and Uruguayan soccer federation (AUF) president. Current CONMEBOL executive committee member and Venezuelan soccer federation (FVF) president. Current member of the FIFA organizing committee for the Olympic football tournaments. Former CBF president. Former FIFA executive committee member and CONMEBOL president. A further four people, described as sports marketing executives, are also facing charges. They are: Controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates. President of Traffic Sports USA Inc. (Traffic USA). Controlling principals of Full Play Group S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates. US prosecutors allege that all have been involved in corrupt activities between 1991 and the present day. In a statement, the Justice Department said: "Two generations of soccer officials abused their positions of trust for personal gain, frequently through an alliance with unscrupulous sports marketing executives who shut out competitors and kept highly lucrative contracts for themselves through the systematic payment of bribes and kickbacks. "All told, the soccer officials are charged with conspiring to solicit and receive well over $150 million in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for their official support of the sports marketing executives who agreed to make the unlawful payments." The alleged corruption ring extends to a wide-range of football matches and tournaments including: FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the CONCACAF region the CONCACAF Gold Cup the CONCACAF Champions League the jointly organized CONMEBOL/CONCACAF Copa América Centenario, the CONMEBOL Copa América the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores the Copa do Brasil, which is organized by the Brazilian national soccer federation (CBF) Ten members of FIFA's Executive Committee who took part in voting for the Qatar and Russia World Cups will be questioned. The Swiss prosecutor said raids were carried out at the same time to prevent any possible destruction or collusion of evide. It is understood FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who is standing for re-election on Friday, was not detained in Zurich today. At a press conference this morning, FIFA's communications chief said the congress will go ahead as planned – as will the presidential election. Police said the bribery arrests were made "without opposition" although some were seen being covered by bed sheets as they were led from the hotel. A statement from the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) read: "The six soccer functionaries were arrested today in Zurich by the Zurich Cantonal Police. "The FOJ's arrest warrants were issued further to a request by the US authorities." "The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating these individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kick-backs between the early 1990s and the present day. "The bribery suspects – representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms – are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer functionaries – delegates of Fifa and other functionaries of Fifa sub-organisations – totalling more than 100 million US dollars." "In return, it is believed that they received media, marketing, and sponsorship rights in connection with soccer tournaments in Latin America. "According to the US request, these crimescontent_img were agreed and prepared in the US, and payments were carried out via US banks." The FIFA officials charged under the probe are Jeffrey Webb, Eugenio Figueredo, Jack Warner, Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Rafael Esquivel, José Maria Marin and Nicolás Leoz. Swiss officials said the suspects' deportation could be sanctioned immediately. It is understood the US investigation goes well beyond FIFA and will involve sports-marketing executives across Latin America. An investigator told the New York Times: "We’re struck by just how long this went on for and how it touched nearly every part of what FIFA did. "It just seemed to permeate every element of the federation and was just their way of doing business. It seems like this corruption was institutionalised." The investigation is being led by US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, he Taylor is a fan of their midfield.Taylor is impressed by John McGinn and Jack Grealish. He told the Liverpool-Aston-Villa-Ian-Taylor-Jack-Grealish-John-McGinn-Premier-League”>Daily Express: “I think the likes of Jack Grealish and John McGinn, for scame into office in February. Next Fulham manager: Jean Tigana angling for Cottagers return after Felix Magath sacking

Jean Tigana wants to make a shock return as Fulham manager after . Representatives of have made contact with Fulham owner Shahid Khan and hope to hold talks about the Craven Cottage legend making an emot7 shots on goal in the first half without a goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton.”We needed it,” the Brazilian told the club’s website. “We have been working hard every day, every game and this time we finally got the result, got the three pointsional comeback. Khan is being advised to plump for a candidate with more recent experience of English football — but Fulham insiders say all bets are off as the American is determined to personally lead the search for Magath’s successor, with little input from chief executive Alastair Mackintosh. Tigana led Fulham to the title the last time they played at Championship level in 2001, but was sacked by former owner Mohamed Al Fayed after a spectacular fall-out, centring on the ill-fated £11million club-record signing of striker Steve Marlet. The former France midfielder won a court case against Al Fayed for wrongful dismissal, earning a £2m settlement — but has told friends he has hankered after a return to , since the Egyptian sold up to Khan last year. Tigana, now 59, was loved by Fulham fans for his team’s attractive brand of football as he led them to promotion and Premier League survival — but he has since had a patchy record with Tcism directed towards him during last year’s World Cup.The Manchester City striker was one of several players targeted in Brazil after the prodigious naticontent_imgon failed to make it past the quarter-final stage in Russia.”As a supporter, I would not like a urkish club Besiktas, French side Bordeaux and Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua. Desperate Dan: Tottenham chief Levy is dying to get revenge on Arsenal

Written by admin on April 29, 2019 Categories: simphtng Tags: , ,

Andre Villas-Boas is under orders from his Tottenham boss Daniel Levy to mark his North London derby debut in style. for news, views, opinion and videos ahead of the game. Spurs manager Villas-Boas has revealed that his chairman left him in no doubt as the importance of the particular three points up for grabs at the Emirates in Saturday's lunch-time kick-off. Arsenal fought back from 2-0 down in February to destroy visitors Spurs, 5-2. The victory sparked a sensational late run that saw the Gunners beat their arch-rivals to a place in the Champions League on goal difference. Tottenham finished fourth and missed out on the Champions League when Chelsea won last season's European Cup final, and now chairman Levy wants revenge. A smiling Villas-Boas said: “He keeps on mentioning it! “I think it’s normal, you really have to embrace it because it’s part of the greater culture of this game, it means a lot for both teams. “You can’t wear red in a situation like this – at this training ground. The meaning of it is quite special and all of us embrace it.” Tottenham pulled off a shock victory at Arsenal two years ago this month in the League. They also saw off Arsene Wenger’s men at White Hart Lane during the first half of last season. During the second half of last term, however, the Gunners staged that remarkable comeback and condemned Harry Redknapp’s Spurs side to the Europa League. Now, having replaced Redknapp with AVB, Levy wants victory – and the Portuguese is well aware of just how much seeing off Arsenal will mean to Tottenham’s fans and employees. He added: “I have been getting it for the last two weeks, people have been speaking about it quite often – the staff, the chairman – so you understand the importance of it. “This is a game where passion is very high, it’s a game that represents three points, but is more than that in the history of Noth London derbies.” Arsenal have suffered their worst start ever to a Premier League season under Wenger. But, well aware of the way that the Gunners tend to get their act together at the business end of the season, AVB is taking nothing for granted. He still maintains Tottenham will have to finish above Arsenal to achieve their objective of clinching Champions League football. Spurs currently sit a place and a point ahead of the neighbours going into this weekend’s game. They have not finished ahead of Arsenal since 1995 – the year before Wenger took over. Villas-Boas went on: “We have to. By what I see in the Premier League, it’s obvious that Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are in the race for the title. “We want to get one of those spots, but it’s difficult. They have other resources. "So we are looking at trying to shorten the gap and not letting it grow. “Neither we nor Arsenal are where we want to be – the position in the league doesn’t suit either of us. “This time last year, we were higher up the table and had our poor period towards the end. We have both shown we can do better, though, and there is still time. “To play for fourth spot is difficult bearing in mind the competition you have to overcome. But it’s possible to bridge it.” Spurs midfielder Moussa Dembele is out of the Arsenal game with a hip injury but Villas-Boas is hoping to have England attackers Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe available after light training sessions. Caulker is on a revenge mission, after making his Spurs debut against Arsenal when they lost 4-1 in the League Cup two seasons ago. The 20-year-old defender picked out the trip to the Emirates as soon as the fixtures came out in June, and says victory this weekend can go a long way to giving Tottenham's season lift-off. “Saturday is probably our biggest game of the season and it’s a massive game for us. We go there wanting to win," said Caulker, who made a goal-scoring full England debut against Sweden on Wednesday. “We’re both battling for the top four and Saturday will be a big game. It will be great to go to their place and turn them over. “I’m so looking forward to it. It was the first game I looked for this season. I made my debut in the North London derby. We lost 4-1 in extra time in the Carling Cup. I want to correct that. “I buzz off the atmosphere in this game, especially as a youngster it’s about getting experience and learning every week.” Caulker is desperate to score against Arsenal, and have the laUnited.Aubameyang’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw was disallowed for offside, but the technology eventually overturned the decision.”For me it’s very clear. It’s VAR – it says if something is good or not good and that action is clear,” Emery told beIN st laugh over his England team-mate Jack Wilshere. The defender, who also netted in Spurs' loss to Manchester City last Sunday, added: “I’ve got two goals in two games which is a real boost. I’d love to score in a North London derby, but more importantly I want three points. “My friendship wit to sign the Portugal international on an 18-month with obligation to buy for £55m, claims Sky Sports. That offer is dependent on whether Fernandes plays at least 50 per cent of games during his time in West London. The news comes as a blow to West Hah Jack ends at kick-off. "We’ll all be fired up and ready to go. We’re friends off pitch, which makes for good bonding in the England camp, but we’re professionals and have to switch that off.”
