Danny Graham is awaiting hospital test results as Swansea aim to get to the bottom of his mystery virus. The £3.5million striker, who will miss , was taken for an examination on Monday after symptoms ofcontent_img dizziness and nausea continued for five days. Graham fell ill on his return to Swansea following their 2-1 Premier League win at Newcastle on November 17 and has not trained since. Swans manager Michael Laudrup said: “Danny’s illness is becoming a concern, especially for him. "There is one thing in having the flu for two, three or four days, but it’s still there. As a person, you get a little worried. "We are talking about health here which is the most important thing you can have in life. “We are waiting for the results of tests.am.The Englishman has Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Willian and Pedro to pick from for the Champions League clash.Speaking ahead of the clash, Lampard said: “Christian Pulisic’s impact was good when he came on as well. Callum gave me that in Obviously, we are hoping it’s nothing.” The health concern has come at a bad time for Graham and Swansea, who are a little short in the striking department ahead of Wednesday's home game against third-placed West Brom. Itay Shechter failed to impress as a lone striker in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, so Laudrup is expected to turn to midfield goal-scoring sensation Michu once again as his main attacker. Laudrup added: “It’s more important Danny gets back and the doctors tell him it is just a virus.” Clarke: Not bad for starters, eh? Steve Clarke has refused to rule his West Brom side out of the Champions League reckoning after vowing: ‘I want to go even higher.’ The Baggies have been the Premier League’s surprise package this term, and currently sit third Matic has given his approval to the club’s youth movement under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.Matic started his first game of the season in a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday. The Serbian has seen his place in the starting eleven go to Scott McTominay, following a sensational start to long-time assistant Clarke’s managerial career. They are off to their best top-flight start since 1953 and head to Swansea bidding for a fifth win on the spin. Clarke admits no one is expecting his unfancied team to last the pace – but insists they can get even better. “I think there’s more to come. If we don’t believe that, we might as well give up," said the Scot. “I want to be better, I want to be higher in the league, I want to do as well as I can in this job and the players are the same. “They want to be as successful as they can be, and if we drive each other on, then that’s great. “If you ask around, 95% of people in football would say West Brom wouldn’t be in the top three come the end of the season. But let’s see.” Clarke has previously insisted reaching the 40-point safety mark was his only concern and . But he insisted he is no dour Scot. He quipped: “I do believe the cameras caught me smiling at the weekend – I’ll need to be more careful in the future! “I don’t think I’m a grumpy person, but I can be quite serious because it can be quite a serious business at times.” Clarke revealed he has received more congratulatory messages from Jose Mourinho, whom he served under as No 2 at Chelsea, over the Baggies’ dream start. “He sent me a nice text before the game at the weekend – it was encouragement just to keep going and to keep working,” he added. The Baggies have been dealt a blow with the news goalkeeper Ben Foster, who has missed the last three games, may need more surgery to cure his groin problem. Clarke said: “If it is the case, it will be the same timescale as before – seven to 10 days.” West Brom are expected to freshen up the team, and Jonas Olsson (calf) and Youssouf Mulumbu (hamstring) face fitness tests. Two precious: Liverpool set to rest Suarez and Gerrard ahead of Chelsea clash

Written by admin on  Categories: dvanseqr Tags: , ,

Luis Suarez’s latest special delivery for Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers is ready to cover him in bubble wrap. Rodgers is prepared to sacrifice Liverpool’s Europa League hopes to protect Suarez for Sunday’s testing trip to Chelsea. The Reds boss knows he cannot afford to lose his star striker, who has scored or had a hand in 10 of their 13 Premier League goals this season. Rodgers is set to leave Suarez on Merseyside, along with skipper Steven Gerrard, when he jets out to Moscow tomorrow with his squad for Thursday’s clash with Anzhi. The Irishman is prepared to risk dropping points against the Russian side, even though a win would virtually clinch Liverpool’s place in the last 32, because the Premier League is his priority. It is easy to understand why Rodgers is so keen to protect Suarez after watching his mesmeric display against Newcastle and he rescued the Reds singlehandedly from what would have been a fifth home defeat with a wonder goal. Jose Enrique, who hit the 60-yard ball for Suarez to control brilliantly on his chest before rounding Tim Krul to score, claimed none of his team-mates was surprised by his world-class finish. Fabricio Coloccini got sent off because he became so frustrated trying to mark the Uruguayan  and Enrique claims opponents are frightened of him. “We all know Luis already, so his goal was no surprise,” said Enrique. “I think with all the other things that are being said about Luis, people forget just how good a player he is. “There are different types of strikers in the world, but Luis is the kind of player who can create his own chances. “It won’t always come off for him, but he will try things a thousand times in every game. “People try to make Luis struggle because he is an important player for us and some of the opposing teams are scared of him.” Even Suarez’s brilliance was not enough to earn Liverpool three points and they have drawn five of their 10 Premier League games. Enrique knows they badly need more wins, but claims the fans are content with the way they are playing. “We are disappointed with the result because Newcastle only had two chances to score and one of them was their goal,” he said. “We deserved to win and we know we have to start to get points. “Afterwards, the manager told us to try to keep on doing what we are doing. And I think we are doing well. “I think the fans are happy with us because, although it was 1-1, from thPaul Pogba is likely to leave Manchester United this summer with Real Madrid and Juventus both chasing the midfielder, according to Sky Sports in Germany. The 26-year-old France midfielder would prefer to join Zinedine Zidane’s side in Spain, per the same source.United want to keep Pogba at lcontent_imgeast until the end of the season due to a lack of replacements available on the market in January.e start of the game we went out to try and win. “We’re doing well in training everyday, which people don’t get to see, and we take that momentum into games. “We’re improving a lot under Brendan Rodgers. Nice manager Claude Puel ‘has sex toy thrown at him’ during attack by supporters

Nice manager had thrown at him during an attack by the club's supporters, according to French publication L'Equipe. Up to 70 fans turned up at the club's training ground on Thursday to remonstrate with Puel after his side were thrashed 5-0 by Saint-Etienne on Sunday. Nice have dropped to 15th in the table following a run of just two wins in their last 14 matches and could yet be relegated into the second tiers with Nottingham Forest for midfielder Ben Osborn.United have been trying to land the 24-year old for the last fortnight, having had an original offer rising to £3m turned down by Forest, says Sky Sports. But it is understood the Blades made an imp of French football. Organisers of the protest claimed the remonstration was meant to take placerdogs, reports SkySports.United make the short trip across the city on their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League this season, after going four games without defeat.”I feel it helps when anybody thinks that United are underdogs going into a gae in good spirits but that didn't turn out to be the case. A similar attack took place earlier in the campaign which forced the club to employ a large police presence at their training base, but that didn't deter fans as Puel and his assistant Guy Mengual were forced to scamper to the dressing room in a bid to escape. “I think that we are operating in a particular environment,” Puel said afterwards. “What interests me is to stay focused on our next two deadlines [the final two matches of the season]. "We will tackle it. Is it [the attack] suitable for football? It’s something else.” A win for Nice against Lens on Saturday wocontent_imguld secure the club's top flight safety and ease the pressure on Puel's shoulders. Manchester City ordered to win the Champions League by Sheikh Mansour reveals skipper Kompany

Vincent Kompany has revealed Manchester City owner Sheikh rsenal youngster Tyreece John-Jules is growing in confidence from his performances with the club’s U23 side. The exciting forward scored twice in a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday. He told the club’s website: “It boosts my confidence and I haveMansour has demanded the club win the Champions League, . The Blues have won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup since the Sheikh poured more than £1billion of his money into the club following his takeover in 2008. But have fallen short in the Champions League, twice failing to make it out of the group stage, followed by last season’s last 16 exit to Barcelona. On the eve of Wednesday’s Group E opener here against Bayern Munich, City skipper Kompany admitted the pressure was on them to take the next step and deliver European football’s ultimate club prize. “The club is asking us to win now, so that’s one thing,” said Kompany. “We’ve come so far in the last four years and we’ve been successful, but you always want to take it a step further. “Let’s take it into context – we’re not favourites for this competition by any means, but we would like to compete and challenge. Before we won the Premier League it was more difficult to believe we could do it than with the Champions League. “My experience of the Champions League is that it’s not more difficult to go to the end, but everything has to be perfect. “The Premier League is just a ferocious battle to the end. But eventually it will happen our way. “You start a season at Manchester City nowadays and it’s not acceptable not to put all of the trophies on your ambitions list. It’s a case of me and all the players looking at all the trophies and thinking we have to go until the very end of the season.” City have been drawn against Bayern in the group stage in three of the last four seasons and Kompany admitted there will be few surprises in store for either team. Manuel Pellegrini’s side , but and avoid the last 16 clash with Barcelona which saw them eliminated. Now Kompany believes there can be no excuses from City and has admitted the time has come for the English champions to show they have what it takes to go all the way in Europe. “Bayern are a team we’ve become familiar with,” he said. “Every time you come here is an opportunity to prove yourself and we take it as a challenge against one of the top three clubs in the world. “It’s one of hardest places to come to, but it’s time to start making these games close and making up the gap between ourselves and the other top clubs.” Guardiola suggested City, with their vast wealth, experienced squad and strength in depth, were one of nine clubs who could win the Champions League this season, despite it being only their fourth year in the competition. “He’s taking a massive risk, isn’t he?” said a smiling Kompany. “We know how much damage it can cause your hopes if you don’t win the group. “We always face difficult teams if we are not seeded but we were very close last year. We are very excited but we believe in our ability as well. There are always signs of us growing stronger. That’s all you can ask for in football. No team can expect a guarantee of going to the final. “Only Real Madrid won last season. All the rest of us lost. There can only ever be oner winner, but the margins are very small.” Kompany believes City’s win here over Bayern last December – in which they were2-0 down after just 15 minutes – can give City a potentially significant psychological edge tonight. “I actually reckon it meant a lot,” said Kompany. “We were just one goal away from topping the group, it was an important game to win and it gave us more belief.” Pellegrini, who turned 61 on Tuesday, will serve the final game of a two-match touchline ban imposed by UEFA for criticising ref Jonas Eriksson following City’s first leg loss to Barcelona in February. City are without Stevan Jovetic, Fernando and the suspended Pablo Zabaleta. Tottenham 1-1 Wolves: Sunday Mirror match report

Written by admin on  Categories: klhjitrc Tags: , ,

Tottenham blew their chance to claim a share of the Barclays Premier League`s top spot as they were held to a disappointing draw against Wolves. Mick McCarthy's men stunned the home side by taking the lead in the 22nd minute when Steven Fletcher poked home. Redknapp: We're concentrating on a Top Four finish  And Spurs struggled to give Wayne Hennessey a real test until the second half and it took a 20-yard strike from Luka Modric to ensure they left with a point on an underwhelming afternoon that will do little to convince their doubters that they are credible title contenders. Tottenham could have moved level with leaders Manchester City and neighbours United with a win, but they are now likely to head in to next weekend's showdown at the Etihad Stadium five points behind the leaders, who play at Wigan on Monday. For all the pre-match talk of Spurs being serious challengers, they played like anything but champions in the making, especially early on. McCarthy, whose Wolves team arrived in London without a win since December 4, cut an animated figure on touchline in opening 15 minutes, but he had little reason to worry. Modric squirted a shot wide and then had a powerful effort blocked by a posse of Wolves defenders, before he blazed over soon after. Then, in the 22nd minute, White Hart Lane was stunned in to silence by a controversial Fletcher opener. The visitors were awarded a dubious corner when Kyle Walker was adjudged tokjaer has branded today’s reports of sack fears as “blatant lies”.It’s been claimed in the national press claiming the United boss had told his players he will be sacked if they lose their next games against Tottenham and Manchester City.”I’m good, i have touched the ball on its way out despite the full-back insisting he did not. Brad Friedel parried Roger Johnson's header from the corner in to the path of Fletcher and he made no mistake from eight yards. It was the first goal Spurs had conceded at home in 359 minutes. Gareth Bale stung Hennessey's hands with a low drive as Spurs looked for an immediate equaliser and Van der Vaart blazed over. Johnson blocked Van der Vaart's goal-bound effort and Modric volleyed at Hennessey as the Spurs onslaught continued, but Wolves' defending was resolute. Dave Edwards then found space in the Spurs box in a rare Wolves attack but he totally mis-cued his shot. Harry Redknapp's frustration got the better of him just before the break when he shouted angrily at a member of the Wolves bench for failing to return the ball to the field of play. The home crowd urged Spurs on and they thought they had equalised in first-half injury-time, but Adebayor's toe-poke from eight yards was ruled out for offside. Emmanuel Frimpong charged at the Spurs defence moments later and they backed off until Younes Kaboul got a block in. Already booked, the Ghanian was given his final warning after the break when he clattered in to Modric, but the midfielder almost put Wolves 2-0 up moments later but his fierce volley was parried by Friedel. The home supporters' frustration grew after Bale skied a shot from the edge of the area, but they were on their feet moments later thanks to Modric. Van der Vaart skilfully turned in the box to square to Bale, who laid the ball off to the Croatian and he hammered home from 20 yards through a sea of defenders. Aaron Lennon should have made it 2-1 moments later but he could only fire in to Hennessey's arms after the Wolves 'keeper had saved from Modric. Frimpong hauled down Lennon on the edge of the box but did not receive a second yellow card. McCarthy was willing to take no more chances on the youngster, however, and he came off for Stephen Hunt with just over 20 minutes left. Redknapp brought on Jermain Defoe for Lennon as he tried to find a way through. content_imgThe England striker, reportedly unhappy at his lack of first-team action, almost made an immediate impact, latching on to a clearance before firing a fierce low drive which Toby Alderweireld.Roma need to find a replacement for Kostas Manolas, who has just left for Napoli. The Giallorossi had been focusing on Real Betis stopper Marc Bartra, but negotiations have stalled.Instead, Corriere dello Sport says Roma are now turHennessey saved with his feet. Modric fired a shot just over Hennessey's bar from 25 yards and Scott Parker mis-hit an effort with the goal gaping with five minutes left. Christophe Berra's foul on Parker gave Spurs a free-kick 20 yards out with little over 30 seconds left but his curled effort went over and the game ended in disappointment as Redknapp's men had to settle for a point.

Which English team are now the only side Real Madrid have NOT scored against?

Tevez claims he tried to text and call Mancini over training absence

ControversiaEuropa League final clash with Chelsea.Emery travelled out to Baku with the Arsenal team on Saturday, two days before Maurizio Sarri and his Chelsea side followed suit on Monday. Keown argued: “I’m a little bit uncomfortable with the Arsenal team beil Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez made several unsuccessful attempts to contact boss Roberto Mancini about flying to Argentina before taking the trip and missing training, according to the player's representative. Tevez travelled to his native country on Monday night to see his family, and while Tuesday was a scheduled day off for the 27-year-old, he was due at City's Carrington training ground this morning – but did not show up. The club have stressed that it had been made clear to Tevez that he would be required to come in, but it seems the striker believes he made every effort to seek permission for his journey home. A spokesman for Tevez said: "He tried countless times to speak to Roberto Mancini. "He was told it was Mancini's decision as to whether or not he could go and left numerous voice messages and texts on Mancini's phone. "He didn't receive a response at all. He then flew to Argentina and tried to speak to Mancini again yesterday, leaving messages and texts. "As of this moment we've had no response." The spokesman was not prepared to comment on when Tevez is likely to return from South America, and City are not yet able to say what punishment the player may face. Today's news comes just 24 hours after it emerged that Tevez would ncontent_imgot be appealing against the club's ruling that he was guilty of misconduct in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on September 27. City last month fined Tevez four weeks' wages and suspended him for two weeks – deemed to have already been served – after a disciplinary panel found the former Manchester United man guilty of five breaches of contract relating to his behaviour on the bench during the 2-0 loss at the Allianz Arena. The Professional Footballers' Association become involved, making an intervention that saw the fine cut to two weeks' wages, and having backed Tevez on that occasion, PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has today expressed his dismay at the fresh turn of events. "To say the least, I am very disappointed and extremely concerned now," Taylor told Sky Sports News. "To go out to Argentina when – as I have been informed – he was clearly told not to because they (City) needed to work on his fitness, and to blatantly ignore that instruction starts to affect any chance of any reconciliation now. "The whole relationship between clubs and players is one where there has to be clear understanding of what is to be expected and what is not expected. "From that point of view, he is making it virtually impossible to have a reconciliation and leaving himself very vulnerable to strong action by the club. "If he is determined to leave the club, which may well be apparent, then his money value is being diminished by his actions and can affect another club's interest. "As such, he could be held responsible for that, so it is getting to be a situation that I am not at all happy about. "Neither are the club of course, and it is one that we will have to deal with." Tevez was accused by Mancini of refusing to come on as a substitute during the second half of match in Munich, but the player denied the allegation and blamed a misunderstanding, insisting he had merely refused to warm up – something he thought unnecessary as he had already done so. He was suspended for two weeks then began training alone while the matter was investigated, and on October 25 City announced they were upholding a charge of misconduct against him based on the panel's findings. The PFA fought Tevez's corner to get the resulting sanctions reduced, but Taylor is uncertain what now lies in store for the former City captain. "I have been accused at times of defending the indefensible," Taylor said. "It iso is fretting about the fitness of defender Juan Foyth. The 21-year-old was not able to put weight on his left leg as he came off against Bayern Munich. While Spurs went on to win the game and the Audi Cup, Pochettino will be more concerned about wheth very difficult to now be in a situation where we put our heads on the block. "I do feel very disappointed to say the least that when I was hoping things could move on, it has gone into reverse and now he is left in a position that becomes very vulnerable. "The lad is digging himself a hole and it is going deeper. It is a worry to me how we can now get out of this. "He is a human being and a top-quality footballer, but his actions are not what we could possibly recommend to any other player in the game. "It goes to the heart of the contract and that could be gross misconduct in anybody's language. "I don't want to predetermine, but I am very concerned because it is a serious situation and one that the PFA are not happy about." Tevez's future with City remains unclear, although Mancini did recently suggest the frontman – who was the club's top scorer and skipper last term as they won the FA Cup, but has fallen out of favour since his failed attempt to secure a transfer over the summer – could yet return to the team if he apologises. Tevez has only made five appearances for City this season, with the last coming on September 21, and he has not been selected by Argentina for their World Cup qualifying double header against Bolivia and Colombia during the current international break.
